Purposes and Objectives of Madison Learning Center & Childcare
The major goal of Madison Learning Center and Childcare is to provide quality nursery school, Pre-K, and daycare programs for children 0-6 years of age in a loving and accepting atmosphere in which each child is given the maximum amount of attention from staff members.  Both teachers and aides strive to enrich the children in the areas of readiness skills, arts and crafts, music and dance, language arts, independent thinking, and social skills.  Parents are kept informed of individual progress in the areas of social and emotional growth, cognitive skills, motor skills, self-help skills, and communication skills.  This reporting may be in the form of an informal discussion, a scheduled conference, a note or report home, or a phone call.  If deemed necessary, staff members advise parents of any perceived need for outside help in the areas of speech, hearing, and vision.  Follow-up consists of observing and reporting progress or improvement.  To support teachers and aides, arrangements have been made with consultants in the fields of education, social concerns, and health education.  A weekly visit is made to the center by a registered nurse, and a local pediatrician and dentist are available should an emergency arise.

Registration
Before a child may begin attendance, the following requirements must be met:
1.   Completed “MLC Registration” form, “Emergency Medical Procedure and Permission for Pickup by Relative/Non-relative” form, “Health Assessment Record” form, “Rates and Policies” form, “Sick Policy” form, and “Abuse and Neglect and Discipline Policy” form.
2. Payment of $100 registration fee ($125 for two children, $150 for three children). This charge reserves space for your child and is non-refundable. There will be a $50 re-registration fee ($25 for second and third child) for children withdrawn for the summer period.

Account Payment
Account payments are due weekly.  We do not follow the public school calendar.  Therefore, you are responsible for paying tuition during school vacations, even if your child does not attend MLC.  We do not extend credit. Full payment is required each week, even if your child is absent.

Returned Checks
Charges made to MLC’s bank account from checks deposited but returned due to insufficient funds will be reimbursed by the person responsible for writing the check. A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks.

Late Charges
MLC opens at 6:45 am and closes at 6:00 p.m. An early/late charge of $10.00 will be assessed for every 15 minutes or fraction thereof before or after your scheduled hours to cover our additional staffing costs.

Holidays and Vacations
MLC charges tuition for days the center is closed. Year-round children (who attend 40 hours per week or more, 52 weeks a year) are permitted two weeks vacation at no charge, after attending MLC for 52 weeks. There is no vacation time given for children attending MLC part-time or for the academic year (September-June). However, make-up time will be given if space permits.  Make up days must be used (space permitting) within three months of the initial absence. Tuition must be current to use make-up days.

MLC Closings
Planned closings are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the following Friday, and Christmas Day. In the event that public schools are closed because of poor weather conditions, we will attempt to open. If weather conditions deteriorate, the Center may close for safety reasons.  Parents/guardians will be notified by phone.

Withdrawal
Two weeks notice is required if a child is to be withdrawn.  A parent/guardian is responsible for the two-week tuition period even if their child does not attend.

Absence/Illness
Due to fixed staffing costs, no payment credit can be given for absences due to illness. However, make-up days will be given if space permits. Please do not bring your child for care if he/she is obviously sick with a fever, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, or has symptoms of a contagious disease. Please call the Center if your child will be absent.

Administration of Medication
An “Authorization for the Administration of Medications by Daycare Personnel” form must be completely filled in by your child’s physician before we can administer any medication.  This form becomes a part of his/her permanent record.

Arrivals and Departures
Upon arrival, please park in designated parking locations, rather than the entry gate area.  Please escort your child into the building and make sure your child’s teacher or teacher’s aide is aware of your arrival.  All children are expected to arrive and depart according to their enrollment schedule.  Should extra time by needed, arrangements must by made in advance to insure proper teacher/student ratios.  When picking up your child, please notify the staff when you are leaving the center.

Lunches and Snacks
MLC is a nut-free center. Parents are responsible for providing their child’s snacks and lunch.  Refrigerators and microwaves are available in all classrooms.  MLC will provide 100% fruit juice for snacks.  Please inform us if your child has any food allergies.

Personal Items
All lunches, bags, clothing, and toys should be clearly labeled with your child’s name.  Please provide an extra set of clothing for storage in your child’s cubby in case of spills, illness, etc.  Items such as money, weapon-type toys, or expensive and special toys should not be brought to the Center.

Visitations
MLC has an “open door” policy for parents who wish to visit the center.
